HONORING THE AUTUMNAL EQUINOX by Sara Avant Stover, author of THE BOOK OF SHE
By Samy AbulEla

Bright and early this morning, at 4:21 a.m. EDT, the fall equinox occurred, which means that the amount of daylight we experience each day will gradually grow shorter until the winter solstice on Monday, December 21.

Women are intimately connected to the rhythms and cycles of the earth, and in The Way of the Happy Woman, author Sara Avant Stover shows how simple, natural, and refreshingly accessible practices can minimize stress and put us back in sync with our own cycles and those of nature. In the following excerpt, she offers advice for how we can make the most of the upcoming fall season.

We are also pleased to announce that Sara’s new book, The Book of SHE: Your Heroine’s Journey into the Heart of Feminine Power, which helps women deeply connect with their feminine soul, is currently making its way onto bookstore shelves.

THE TOP 9 HIGHLIGHTS OF POPE FRANCIS’S PAPACY by guest blogger Julie Schwietert Collazo, coeditor of POPE FRANCIS IN HIS OWN WORDS
By Samy AbulEla
Mere moments after being selected to lead the Catholic Church in his role as 266th pope, Jorge Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, quietly let the world know that his papacy wouldn’t be business as usual.

Rejecting a ride in a luxurious, privately chauffeured vehicle to “go with the guys on the bus” and making a quick detour to pay the bill for the modest guesthouse where he had been staying during the conclave: these two acts on his first day as pope conveyed Francis’s “of the people” posture, one that has come to define his tenure.

There have been many highlights of these first two and a half years with Francis as pope. Here are nine of my favorites:

INVOKING SUPPORT FROM THE HIGHER REALMS by guest blogger Aleya Dao, author of SEVEN CUPS OF CONSCIOUSNESS
By Samy AbulEla

When was the last time you felt like you needed more support in your life? Where did you turn? Family? Friends? Colleagues? Was the support they offered enough? So often, the challenges that we face in life force us to look for support from others. But when was the last time you looked for support from the beings in the higher realms?

After an enlightenment experience I had in 2001, I became acutely aware of other dimensions and the beings that exist in these higher planes. These beings are often referred to as guides. As I explored my relationship with these beings of light, I identified a group of beings around me that I called my Team. These beings were slightly different than guides. Most of my angelic guides came and went depending on my needs and circumstances, but the members of my Team were always with me.

New World Library Publisher Marc Allen Introduces the MIDDLE PILLAR MEDITATION from His Book THE MAGICAL PATH
By Samy AbulEla
The central exercise in my book The Magical Path, at least for me, is the Middle Pillar meditation.

I first did it when I was 21, and I felt it heal me — almost immediately — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

As the years pass, I come to newer and deeper understandings of this meditation’s power. It’s so simple to do: Just relax, even if just for a brief moment, and imagine a warm, vibrant energy at the crown of your head . . .  and then feel it slowly move down through your whole body, healing every cell of your body along the way.

ON BEING BLIND: An Excerpt from AND THERE WAS LIGHT by Jacques Lusseyran
By Samy AbulEla
When Jacques Lusseyran was an eight-year-old Parisian schoolboy, he was blinded in an accident. He finished his schooling determined to participate in the world around him. In 1941, when he was seventeen, that world was Nazi-occupied France. Lusseyran formed a Resistance group with fifty-two boys and used his heightened senses to recruit the best. Eventually, Lusseyran was arrested and sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp in a transport of two thousand Resistance fighters. He was one of only thirty from the transport to survive.

Lusseyran’s remarkable memoir And There Was Light, which is now also available as an audiobook, is one of the most powerful and insightful descriptions of living and thriving with blindness, or indeed any challenge, ever published. It was chosen as one of the “100 Best Spiritual Books of the Twentieth Century” by a jury of writers including Harold Kushner, Thomas Moore, Huston Smith, and Natalie Goldberg. We hope you’ll enjoy this short excerpt from the book.
