Pope Francis recently made headlines when his spokesperson announced that the Pope would not be authorizing bonuses traditionally distributed to 4,000 Vatican employees upon the succession of one pope by another. Citing the Vatican’s 15-million-euro debt, spokesperson Father Federico Lombardi was quoted as saying that bonuses “might be normal in a situation of abundance, but that is not the world we find ourselves in now.”(READ MORE)

My father once gave me a great piece of advice: “If you can talk,” he said, “you can write.”

Almost all of us can talk, so almost all of us can write. Why don’t more of us do it? It’s certainly one of the most fulfilling, rewarding things we can do.

My mother once sent me a poem she had written. That’s all of her writing I have: one poem. I treasure that poem. I put it in a frame. She revealed a side of herself — a depth, an insight — I never imagined was there. It made me wish my parents had written more.(READ MORE)

In January of 2013 the call went out: World Book Night (WBN) was going to take place on April 23, and volunteers were needed to be Book Givers and spread the love of reading, person to person. After hearing about a colleague’s great experience last year, I submitted my application. What’s not to love about sharing books?
