Shakti Gawain

Shakti Gawain was a pioneer in the field of personal development for over forty years. A bestselling author and internationally renowned teacher of consciousness, Shakti and her work continue to help countless individuals develop greater awareness, balance, and wholeness in their lives. Shakti wrote numerous books considered classics in her field, and those books have sold over ten million copies and have been translated into more than thirty languages. In 1977, she cofounded New World Library with Marc Allen. Shakti was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the late 1990s and later with Lewy body disease. She lived with the diagnosis with the amazing strength and grace that made her the person she was. In 2015 Shakti made the hard decision to step back from her public life so that she could focus on her own healing and spend time with her husband, Jim Burns. She passed away on Sunday morning, November 11, 2018, at the age of 70, from complications related to hip surgery. We are grateful that Shakti’s legacy will live on through her books, audios, and videos — and in the lives of the many people she not only touched emotionally, but genuinely helped to have better, more fulfilling lives. “It’s been so touching to see the extraordinary amount of love that people from all over the world have been expressing as they remember Shakti Gawain and the wonderful impact she had on their lives. She was such an extraordinary woman who lived her life courageously, following her dreams and her heart’s desires. There was no one like her, before or since, and we’ll miss her energy and compassion and love.” — Marc Allen
